Orchid Sparkle

Inspired by one of my own orchids. I painted the background in a textured and abstract manner and allowed the flowers to be visually pleasing. Glazing thin layers of colours over gave the sparkle effect.

Abandoned

I love wrecked, old and petina'd items to paint or draw. Being able to add detail to something with no life, but tons of character.

Bringing Home the Herd

I pay a visit to Sunnyside Guest Farm, situate at the foot of the Muluti Mountains, for a few weeks each year to recharge my batteries both spiritually and physically. Next door is a cattle ranch and over the years a normal evening scenario has been the cattle coming down from the mountain slopes, in company with one or two herdsmen and always a few yapping dogs. The air is filled with whistles and calls and a fine ochre dust - there is a certain urgency to the scene, herdsmen wanting to get home to rest, dogs home to a warm kennel, cattle to the safety of the ranch. The Tide Turns

Painting in this way, working with layers and layers of paint, adding and subtracting marks to discover what lies beneath, requires the artists to relinquish control and let the painting do the directing. It never ceases to amaze me that lies in our subconscious, emerges on the canvas. At the time of this painting I was absorbed by the abuse of our oceans and yet also the hard work by many to restore the beauty to our coral reefs. Painted in an abstract manner, we tell our own story.

Time at the Museum

Polychromos pencil best place to find weird subject matter...the museum. This was a display of old timepieces, Cake tins, lamps, but mostly, I needed to challenge myself to that chain-link handbag (which took all of 3 weeks on its own). This piece has been published in the local Newspaper. Unframed (can be rolled for shipping.)
