The Weekly Queue 3

Another segment of that weekly queue for parcels - a queue which holds so much fascination for me. These people, poor, mostly unemployed, have the most incredible resilience, there is very seldom a look of dejection, rather the reverse - they laugh loudly, of course, they speak even more loudly, this is after all Africa, seldom any complaints, certainly never "woe is me". I use bright colours because they epitomise for me the essense of the people. Ref: 395

Tibetan girl wearing a pink woolie hat. I love her secretive little smile and the brightness of the pink of her scarf.

Quiver Tree. Namibia.

Hot sand and black Lava Rocks, with the hardy Quiver Tree, and the distance blending into the sky, as only Namibia can be. I just had to paint the fascinating and hardy Quiver Tree.

Powerful Lady

Powerful Lady It was the 2nd day travelling on the S21 Kruger National Park, one of my favourite roads in the park. We were travelling with another family, and when we returned from our game drive the previous morning having seen wilddogs, we promised to take them there. It meant an early rise for them. No wilddogs this morning though, which was not suprising as they cover large distances. BUT, we had 2 beautiful lionesses taking a leisurely stroll. They weren't hunting, just sniffing to see who had been there before. We even got some stunning photos of the impala transfixed in the road. This lioness had the end of her tail missing. When we were talking about it later at camp, someone mentioned that she had stayed too long on a kill, and a hyena had bitten it off. Painted with acrylic on canvas, unframed.
